The first Emilia - Romagna Harmonica Convention was held in Rimini on Novenber 23 2003. The Convention - organized by Marco Betti and Gianandrea Pasquinelli - was a great success with more than 40 harp players attending the event. We had the pleasure to see people coming from many italian regions --> Emilia, Romagna, Toscana, Umbria, Marche, Abbruzzo, Molise, Piemonte and Lazio. The meeting place was a small pub - WADADA - in downtown Rimini. The Convention started in the afternoon with a mini-workshop on harmonica customization, microphones and amplification held by Gianandrea Pasquinelli. Overblowing examples were provided by Flavio Bosi. Following this session, Mauro Pionzo presented his line of custom diatonic harmonicas - Plunz Specials - based on Marine Band and Weiltmeister reed plates. He showed excellent workmanship and beatifully sounding brass and alluminium harmonica bodies. He also presented a custom harmonica amp based on the Serrano design; the amp sounded big and served as the main amp for the numerous guests appearing on stage at night. Giovanni Volini, the vice-president of the International Harmonica Organization, talked about the possibility to start an Italian Harmonica Association with the aim to promote the study and extend the use of our beatiful instrument in our country; he received a good response from the audience and ended his speech by playing bass and chromatic harmonicas. All the partecipants had dinner togheter in a typical italian-style restaurant. The night we had Rico Blues Combo on stage; Rico Blues Combo, lead by Riccardo Migliarini (vc & harp) and Maurizio Pugno (gtr), is one of the best Italian blues band and is earning rave reviews in Germany where their tour frequently. The Combo played intensely and helped the numerous guests, including partecipants, to jam and integrate smoothly. The guests: Antonio D'Adamo --> Bluesmen's harp player is one the most talented player in Italy; his style is powerful and fluent; he is one of the true master of the diatonic harmonica; Andrea Cocco --> is one of the historical harp player in the Sonny Boy vein; he demonstrated to be still on the edge. A final word: here in Italy we have great chromatic players --> Willy Burger (classic music), De Filippi (jazz) as well as outstanding diatonic players --> Antonio D'Adamo, Riccardo Migliarini, and Andrea Cocco are only a few remarkable examples. For additional information on the Italian Harmonica scene please visit DottorHarp who is maintained by the great harp player Leonardo Triassi (we missed you at the meeting) and Harmonica House on this site.

Last but not the least --> this successfully story is dedicated to the Master of Inspiration - Mr. Joe Filisko himself (the only man who comunicates with people through his presence alone !!
